Manufactured by an unknown number of small manufacturers in the South during the course of the Civil War, duplication of Union regulation weapons was a popular activity, with this example, measuring 36 inches overall, showing a hilt patterned after U.S. 1860 Light Cavalry model mated with a subtly curved single fuller 30 1/2" blade. Brass 2-branch guard, with a single wire wrapped leather grip and helmet pommel. A series of illustrations of similar weapons are present in William Albaugh's book "Handbook of Confederate Swords" with Plate XLVIII on page 112 being particularly close in design.

Very good with a mixed brown and gray patina on the blade, and a deep aged color with a few hints of green on the brass. Most of the wire is absent. Mild dings and handling marks overall. Confederate swords are far and few between!
