Notes:Drawings by German Masters of the XV-XVIII Centuries. From a selection of 21 facsimiles of the originals preserved in the Albertina Collection in Vienna. With an introduction and descriptive text by Campbell Dodgson, M.A, C.B.E. Edited in English by Dodgson, keeper of prints and drawings at the British Museum. Published in London by BT Batsford Ltd, 94, High Holborn in 1930. The edition for the British Empire and the United States of America is limited to 125 copies. All rights of this work are the property of Anton Schroll & Co who are publishers of the German Edition. Printed in Austria. Plate #1 "The Holy Trinity". The original was drawn in reddish brown ink on vellum; colored with red, blue, and yellow. The nimbus, loin-cloth, and chalice are gilt. The scarlet cross upon which the crucified Savior hangs is also the initial letter of the word "Te". This miniature, from about 1150, thought to be derived from Salzburg or the neighborhood, shows the influence of the Irish school of illuminators, which was carried by missionaries and monks from Ireland into Southern Germany and Austria.
