Universal Pictures marked 1st Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver, #204217, .38-40 cal., 4-3/4'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, two-piece rosewood grips. Mfg'd 1901. Left side of frame marked ''UP-16'' for Universal Pictures. Two-line 4-3/4'' barrel address, front sight has been neatly removed for quickdraw sequences in Universal productions. Used in many movies and television shows throughout the span of Universal Pictures, and originally purchased by our consignor at the final auction held in Los Angeles of studio firearms and props in the early 1990s. Universal Pictures, the forerunner of Universal Studios, Inc., was founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle. In the early years, Universal was famous for their inexpensive melodramas, westerns, and serials. Condition is very good to fine retaining approx. 20%-30% thinning and lightly toning blue with very light hints of case colors, mostly in protected areas. Grips appear to be old studio replacements. Right side of frame with two small holes, possibly for prop master's tag. Action is crisp and tight, bore is fair from use with ''5 in 1'' studio blanks. A rare opportunity to own an iconic studio firearm from the Golden Age of American entertainment. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (C&R)
