United States, c. 1890-1910, a fine glass encased equal arm balance diamond scales made by Becker Brothers of New York, their trade name etched in a rectangular piece of ivory at the base of the beam The round pans with small handles are 3.7 cm. In diameter and appear to be silver. The pans sit on brass apparatus attached to the equal arm balance which is very delicately made. The front of the scales has a moveable window to enable the jeweler to place his gem on one pan and the proportionate weights on the other. A large drawer holds some diamond carat weights several tweezers, a jeweler's tool, etc. The dimensions are: W: 30 cm, H: 28 cm. D:13.3 cm. The sliding window has an ivory handle. This item is intact and virtually perfect. Its small dimensions make it displayable on a desk or small cabinet.    $750
