United States Property marked Colt with customized slide marked “Model of 1911 U.S. Navy”, semi-auto pistol, .45 cal., 5” barrel with sharp “HP” proof, re-blued finish, checkered wood grips, two-tone magazine, #96557 in overall goodcondition as refinished with a good bore, crisp action and good grips. The United States Property marking and serial number on the frame are sharp as is the “GHS” inspection on the left side of the frame, however, beneath the refinish of theslide, the markings are less sharp and there appears to be the faint remnants of the Rampant Colt at the rear of the left side of the slide; according to the Standard Catalog of Military Firearms by Peterson, this serial number is notin an assigned serial number range for the Navy provided Colts; although this gun’s serial number does fall within a range of numbers assigned to Colt in late 1914 per the same reference, in our opinion, it is not a factory U.S. Navy 1911.(C&R).
