United States Property marked Colt Model 1911-A1 semi-auto pistol, .45 cal., 5” barrel, nickel finish, finely and extensively engraved by Master engraver John Adams, Sr., #90100 with factory letter confirming caliber and barrel length,indicating initial finish blue and showing shipment to the Commanding Officer, Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois on August 5, 1914, 600 guns in shipment; also included is an authentication letter from Mr. Adams, hand signedand dated July 2, 2012 attesting to his engraving of this Colt, providing the nickel plating and the carved pearl grips. With respect to the firearm itself, it remains in overall near fine condition with crisp action, very good bore, strong markings and beautiful raised carved iridescent spread eagle pearl grips; lanyard ring in base of magazine; the custom engraving by Mr. Adams adds beautifully to the overall appearance of this pistol and would make an outstanding addition toany collector’s gun room!
