<B>United States 48 Star Flag With Inverted Stars.</B></I> This interesting American flag (circa 1912-1920) measures about 6' x 11.5', is double-sided with multi-piece wool construction, and has individually applied cotton stars. Two brass grommets at the hoist end facilitate raising the flag. This flag is unique in that four of the 48 stars are inverted. One may only wonder at the meaning of this anomaly: was it by design or was it simply a mistake? Written in the hoist end of the flag is the name and address "<I>A. N. Calkins 23324 Maine St. Quincy</B></I>". The 47th and 48th stars represented the additions of Arizona and New Mexico.
