January 5, 1917 - Framed UMWA local charter, bequeathed by the organization to the local union chapter No. 3066. Signed by the local president and secretary, complete with gold seal and various vignettes surrounding the formal text. The UMWA was founded in Columbus in 1890, representing mainly coal miners. Their main goal was to provide safer and better working conditions along with higher wages for the dangerous job of mining. Numerous famous strikes, labor wars and massacres played out over the decades that followed.
