Unique and rare square size, exquisite fine handmade Karabak rug. 100%natural, hand woven, vegetable dye, baby lamb's wool pile on cotton foundation. the multiple repeated medallion of a Shirvan design over a warm shade of red color framed by a contrasting beige color border with a geometric pattern, creates an aesthetically appealing art work. moreover this charming piece is adorned with a collection of animals. Please notice the sophisticated interlocking pattern in the border, which is quite rare and unusual to come across in a village made piece. These lovely pieces are woven in the remote mountainous areas of Karabak. It is quite intriguing to see such sophistication in design woven painstakingly into an art underfoot as such. The art of carpet weaving in the Karabak, Shirvan territory is undoubtedly influenced by a number of objective factors, among them the geographical location of this region, at the joint of the east and the west. Here, along the greater Caucasus ridge, lies the borderline between Asia and Europe. Here is the historical juxtaposition point between Islamic and Christian cultures. Many long caravans passed through this territory over the centuries up until the middle of 20th century. Charming and happy colors are one of the characteristic of Shirvan rugs. Size: 6 feet 6 inches X 6 feet 2 inches. Country of Origin: Karabak.
