Unique patent model or prototype percussion revolver with single action cocking system of American manufacture probably attributed to Orison Blunt. Blunt of New York City was considered the father of Metropolitan Arms Company which he founded. Also Blunt was one of the partners in Blunt and Syms of New York that had a great deal to do with manufacture and prototype of early Colt arms. A detailed research letter by R.L. Wilson describes this pistol fully and we will mention some of the highlights which include; “6 shot, .36 caliber cylinder with rectangular cylinder stops, creeping loading lever, cylinder safety system without pins with notches on the breach similar to Metropolitan copies of Colt revolvers, cylinder knurling rather than a rolled scene which is found on Warners and other prototype revolvers attributed to this maker, unusual styling to the barrel, blued and brown finish and Wilson sights a warning letter issued by Colt’s patent attorney E.N. Dickerson dated 1852 in which he specifically cited Blunt and Syms. Wilson also refers to a unique prototype Walker made by Blunt and Syms for Colt and the fact that Blunt and Syms were a major rival to Colt and his pistol production after the factory fire of 1864”. The pistol measures 12 ½” overall with a 6” barrel and approximately 75% to 85% of blued and browned original finish remains. The stocks are silver inlaid on each side in an unusual manner and the condition is very good plus overall with some minor pitting and slight aging. The pistol is completely un-numbered and not marked. The revolver shows quality one-of-a-kind patent prototype machining with small handmade screws and fine workmanship. A unique and museum quality American percussion revolver. Est.: $15,000 -$30,000.
