Unique Winchester Semi-Deluxe Model 1894 Extra Lightweight Takedown Lever Action Rifle
This is an example of a Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Takedown Rifle manufactured in 1904. The rifle has a blued barrel, half-magazine and receiver with casehardened loading lever and hammer. The rifle has a pistol grip stock with Winchester hard rubber grip cap and a hard rubber shotgun buttplate with the round Winchester logo. The forend cap and stock are fitted with detachable sling swivel loops. The barrel is fitted with a three-leaf "Winchester Express" rear sight and a Redfield front sight. A marked factory special order belt hook is attached to the left side of the receiver. The hook has a blue finish and is marked: "WINCHESTER/TRADE MARK" in two lines. The walnut stock and forend have non-factory checkered panels. The barrel is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED AUGUST 21 1894." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The left side of the barrel is marked: "-NICKEL STEEL BARREL-/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" in two lines below the rear sight followed by the caliber designation: "30 W.C.F.". The oval Winchester proof marks are stamped on the top of the barrel and the top of the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll stamped: "MODEL 1894/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK" in three lines. The serial number is located on the lower front of the receiver.

Very fine. The rifle retains approximately 85% of the original blue finish. Most of the finish is present on the barrel and magazine. Finish wear is concentrated on the takedown portion of the barrel and the front edge and bottom of the receiver. The hammer and loading lever have about 80% of the original casehardened finish. The stock and forearm have most of the original varnish and are in good overall condition. The checkered panels are well executed but the checkering is flat and the work is not the same quality as Winchester factory checkering. This is a very fine example of a Winchester Model 1894 Extra Lightweight Takedown Lever Action Rifle with an extremely rare and unique factory belt hook.
