This is an excellent example of a Winchester prototype rifle from the Winchester collection. There are no visible maker, model or serial number on the rifle which features a blade front and adjustable sight marked "PAT. JAN. 29, 1901". The breech end 1 7/8" of the barrel is squared. The action is a falling block assembly which also houses the hammer and trigger. Blue barrel, hammer and trigger with casehardened breech block assembly and lever. Mounted with a smooth one piece straight grip walnut stock with Schnabel forend and blue finished steel crescent buttplate. Originally from the Herb House collection.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel retains 98% original blue finish with some minor muzzle wear and edge wear on the rear portion, and showing a few minor scratches. The buttplate retains 97% original blue finish with wear on the heel and toe. The block and lever retain 95% original case colors with some scratches on the left side of the breech block from normal cycling of the action. The stock is also excellent with a few scattered minor dings and scratches. The action is excellent. This is a must for the Winchester .22 rifle collector!
