This is a rare example of a an original US Army contract Model 1911 semi-automatic pistol as manufactured in 1918, this pistol was later altered/converted, possibly by the US Government, to the 1911A1 configuration. The alteration consisted of milling the frame cuts/radius, directly behind the trigger as shown on the standard, Model 1911A1 frame and adding the arched mainspring housing. The slide still retains the original "MODEL OF 1911 U.S.ARMY" markings on the right side along with the two-line, two-block address and patent date markings, with the Rampant Colt in the middle on the left side. There is the "H" inspector proof above the firing pin stop. The top of the frame is marked with an "eagle/S8" proof, on the left side with the right side marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No 557870/1911 A1". It is fitted with a checkered wide spur hammer, short milled trigger, with checkered face, arched mainspring housing and the long grip safety. The barrel is a late post-WWI version marked with a single "P" firing proof and a single "F" proof for the Flannery Company. It has standard checkered walnut grips with no diamond pattern around the screw holes and is complete with one two-tone magazine.
