Unique Silver Stocked Unidentified Albanian Flintlock Holster Pistol
This is an attractive example of a ornately relief chiseled, silver stocked, Albanian flintlock pistol made in the early 19th century, for some unknown prominent individual. The embellishments are much more ornate than what is found on these flintlock pistols. Three inches of the breech end of the barrel is octagon with bands between the round and octagon portion and engraved with simple leaf and arch engraving designs with gold inlays including a gold inlaid band ahead of the engraving and at the breech end. The lock and hammer are lightly engraved with simple designs and it is equipped with a fenced brass flash pan. The 3/4 length stock is silver and there is a silver forend piece that covers the muzzle and extends 4 1/2" back from the muzzle and the trigger guard is also silver. The stock and forend are nicely, deep relief engraved with floral and geometric designs typical of the Albanian made guns. The gun is heavy for it's size, leading writer to believe the stock is solid silver and not silver wrapped wood as one might suspect.
