Unique Prototype Winchester Model 50 Semi-Automatic 20 Gauge Shotgun

Estimate: $700 - 1000
Manufactured in 1957. The lower left side of the receiver has a small round metal tag which reads "SIMMONS/28 GA./PAT./PEND.". The consignor states that this was to be an Ernie Simmons prototype for a 28 gauge with a very limited production of less than 40 and the project was dropped in 1959 for a 28 gauge in Model 50 and 59 when demand was deemed minimal. This shotgun is however a 20 gauge. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the standard three line Winchester trade mark information followed by "MODEL 50-20 GA-2 3/4 CHAM-/---WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL---/MOD". Single bead sight, Winchester oval proof on top at the breech and on the bottom of the receiver, as well as the serial number. There is a hole drilled in the left side of the receiver and it is mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. Length of pull is 13 inches.
