Unique Pair of Silver Mounted William Brander London Marked Brass Cannon Barrel Flintlock Pistols A)
William Brander was active in London circa 1752-1789, with later references showing his descendants keeping up the trade. Produced without sights on the cannon barrel, with "BRANDER/ LONDON" in banners among scrollwork on top of the breech and "crown/ GP". "*/ WB" and "crown/ V" proofs on the left underside. Vine and floral engraving are present on the tang and the trigger guard, the hammer has a fine goose neck pattern, and the frizzen spring is expertly turned to run along the underside of the flash pan. Smooth one piece grip, with a horn tipped wood ramrod, elegant silver wire scroll and flag inlay around the tang, a pierced-through panel showing an array of arms and flags opposite the lock, an inscription shield with faint monogram on the wrist, and a raised array of arms on the buttcap.
