Single German silver bead sight on the fine twist pattern barrel with the breech section marked "INVon L.LEROUX Bte/ a Paris" next to the priming mechanism. A primer tube runs the length of the right side of the forearm to a manually operated elevator, which brings a primer in line with the pass-though striker and the nipple; the act of firing drops the external hammer on the striker, driving the primer onto the nipple and firing the weapon. Side lock action, marked "L.LEROUX Bte/ a Paris". Smooth straight grip stock, with a bugle-shaped ramrod and a flat butt. With a letter from the National Rifle Association which states that their Firearms Information Service could find no information on this arm, speculating that it is a prototype made circa 1855-1860, possibly a contemporary of the Maynard priming system.
BBL: 33 inch part octagon
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 13 mm
Finish: brown/casehardened/blue
Grips:
Serial Number: NSN
Condition:
Very fine. The barrel shows a rich brown twist pattern with traces of case color on the breech and other components. The elevator and striker show 80% of the fiery niter blue finish. A crack is present on the right side of the forearm, exposing part of the priming tube, along with some pressure dents and varnish loss. Mechanically excellent.
