Unique Individual Shipped Pre-War Colt Government Model with Special Order National Match Barrel and Front Sight with Colt Factory Letter

This is an another outstanding, high end condition "Special Order" pre-war Colt Government Model (1911A1 style) semi-automatic pistol. This pistol is accompanied by a Colt factory letter dated June 2010, that verifies it was manufactured in 1930 and was specially ordered with a very early Colt National Match barrel and special, wider, 1/10 front sight. This wider front sight is exactly like the Colt 38 Super automatic pistol we also have in this auction. In 1930 any special order feature on a Government model should be considered extremely rare, with this example having a Match barrel and special order front sight has to be a one of a kind pistol. The Colt National Match Government/M1911A1 pistol was not officially introduced until 1933. As noted in the letter this was a one gun shipment that was shipped to F.E. Zollars Jan 1930 on factory order #176941/1". In addition to that the under side of the slide being very nicely marked "J.D. BUCHANAN/ LOS ANGELES". If you are not familiar, J D Buchanan was a well know contemporary of the King Co. gunsmiths in San Francisco and Frank Pachmayr in LA. He was well know for his early match and accuracy work on 1911 pistols as used by many of the law enforcement, Texas Rangers and military officers, in the Southwest. These pre-war commercial pistols have a fantastic Colt blue finish and show an excellent hand fitting of the parts. It has the early commercial slide markings that consists of the Colt two-line patent/address markings on the left side of the slide and the right side is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE .45" next to the Rampant Colt. The frame is marked on the right side "GOVERNMENT MODEL" over "C159877". The left side of the trigger guard bow is marked "1/Colt VP" the Colt Verified Proof inside a triangle. Features include the blue Colt barrel with polished chamber that is correctly marked on the side "MB", indicating Match Barrel, with no other proofs. There is a capital "S" proof on top of the frame by the disconnector hole. It has the correct post 1924 checkered slide stop, checkered thumb safety, checkered arched mainspring housing, short spur on the grip safety, wide Colt hammer with the checkered spur and the full checkered walnut grips with a lanyard loop on the butt.
