Single bead sight on a flat smooth tapering rib marked "HENRY ATKIN (FROM PURDEY) 18 OXENDON STREET HAYMARKET LONDON W". Henry Atkin was a stocker for Purdey in the mid 1800s and in 1891 he and four other gentlemen bought Boss & Company. The breech end and the dolls head extension of the rib are decorated with fine English scroll engraving. The break lever, frame, locks, trigger guard and forearm hardware are decorated with fine floral scroll and bouquet engraving. Each lock is marked "HENRY ATKIN". The frame and locks were casehardened and the remaining parts blue. Double triggers, automatic tang mounted safety and mounted with a nicely figured multi-point checkered walnut splinter forearm and straight grip stock with a checkered horn buttplate and silver initial oval. 3 inch chambers, choked improved modified/cylinder with ejectors and 14 inch length of pull.

Professionally refurbished. The barrels retain 85% blue finish with some thinning and a small amount of minor spotting. The trigger guard and break lever retain 80% blue finish with loss due to thinning and wear on the lower tang from normal handling. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina with some extremely minor pitting on the locks. The refinished wood remains very good with a small chip repair on the upper left side of the forearm, a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings and engravings are clear. Mechanically fine.
