Unique Early Pre-War Mauser Standard Model K98 Bolt Action Rifle with Zeiss Scope
This is an excellent example of a early prewar Mauser K98 Standard Model rifle that has been equipped with a Carl Zeiss scope. These prewar commercial standard models were the first true K98 style Mauser rifle that was the forerunner for all later wartime production rifles. The top of the receiver ring is covered by the double claw matching serialized scope mounting block. The left side of the receiver is marked 4 crown over "B", "G", "N" and "U" commercial proof marks and the serial number. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the matching serial number and "STANDARD - MODELL" is marked on the left side receiver wall. The left side of the front scope ring is numbered to the gun. The rear barrel band and left side of the stock pin are marked with an "eagle / WaA63" and "eagle /63" proofmark respectively, (the only military proof on the entire gun). The rifle is equipped with an inverted "V" front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters. All milled parts, cleaning rod with a slotted head and mounted with a smooth round knob pistol grip stock with sling slot and flat steel buttplate. Possibly one of the commercial Mauser Standard models that was pressed into military service (Senich mentions similar type rifles on page 420 and 421 of The German Sniper 1914-1945).
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue

Serial Number: B65359
Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 97% original blue finish with some minor muzzle wear. The front barrel band is flaking and scratched with the exposed areas having a smooth silver gray, and the rear band has a smooth brown patina with streaks of original blue finish. The stock shows some signs of light sanding and revarnishing, and remains very fine with a few minor pressure dents and dings. The scope is excellent with clear optics. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
