This is an exceptional example of an early post WWI luger that was arsenal reworked and specifically issued to German military and/or Police units during the early-mid Weimar era. The top of the chamber is marked "1921" indicating the year of rework with the front toggle assembly correctly marked "DWM" for Deutsche Waffen und Munitions fabriken, the original manufacturer. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with two faint "E/WaA4" or "E/ArA4" proof marks with the same style proof mark found on the right rear section of the barrel. The top of the side plate has the small spring left over from the sear safety mechanism, which is typical of Police lugers produced during this time frame. The unusual aspect of this L/L luger is that at the time of rework, there was an additional number "6" added to the end of the serial number on both the front of the frame and the left side of the barrel extension, to make it appear that it was a commercial L luger with a 5 digit commercial serial number, over a number 1 (in the same place a letter would reside). The pistol has a standard rust blued finish with straw colored small parts and checkered walnut grips. This luger is complete with one unmarked magazine that has a unmarked wooden base.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw colors
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 48566
Condition: Excellent with 98% of the arsenal refurbished blue with wear on the edges and high spots overall. The various small parts retain 85% of their straw colors overall on the various small parts. The grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides with some minor pressure dents on the right side from normal field use and handling. This luger has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above, the grip panels which are unnumbered and the firing pin which was restamped. A very nice example of a post WWI Weimar Era/German Police luger.
