Unique DWM Model 1908 Commercial Navy Proofed Luger Pistol with Holster

This is an example of a unique and highly desirable DWM Model 1908 German Navy Luger. During the expansion of the Imperial German Navy prior to 1914 and with the Imperial Navy contracts with DWM already completed, the German Navy literally ran out of serviceable Lugers to issue to the new fleets. As such they recalled Lugers from many of the sea going fleets to reissue to the standard warships and still didn't have enough Lugers to satisfy their overall demand. Consequently they purchased approximately 300, standard 1908 Commercial Lugers, proofed them with the standard Crown/M Navy proofs and issued them. In all respects they appear as standard 1908 Commercial Lugers, with the blank chamber area with the front toggle stamped with the standard "DWM" logo. The left side of the barrel extension as noted has the single "Crown/M" proofmark with the standard "Crown/N" commercial proofs, additionally this example is also stamped "GERMANY" on the right side of the frame indicating it was originally intended for export out of Europe. It is correctly numbered in the commercial fashion and is complete with a correct nickel plated magazine with a matching numbered wooden base. The base is stamped "71406/Crown/M" and it is complete with an unmarked brown commercial leather holster. A very unusual and very scarce 1908 Navy Commercial Luger pistol.
