Letter to his mother, in part (with grammar and spelling retained): “There is not much news here at present you have no doubt hear all about the Battle of Chattanooga the story has gone north that our army was defeated but they still have not considered it a defeat but the Rebels were defeated for they had orders to take Chattanooga and it was that they were fighting for.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
