Rare original mammoth albumen studio portrait of seven Union soldiers with a woman, 22.5 x 17.5 affixed to a 24 x 19 mount, signed in the lower right by the photographer, “Parsons.” The men are in uniform, three holding their sabers, and visible hat pins include two “US,” two “MD,” and one with crossed sabers or rifles. In good to very good condition, with tears and staining to the right side of the photo, paper loss to lower left corner of the mount, and tears and separations to mount layers. The majority of the image is incredibly sharp, with superb clarity to even the smallest details of the uniforms, including belt buckles, hat pins, and jacket buttons. The photographic process of the mid-19th century made prints of this size quite expensive to produce and thus extremely scarce.
