Presentation engraved Manhattan Navy Series III .36 cal revolver, 6.5" octagon bbl, backstrap engraved "To Colonel Frederick A. Starring, From His Friend T.E.G. Ranson". General Frederick Augustus Starring (24 May 1834 – 11 April 1904) was an American civil engineer, lawyer, and soldier. During the Civil War, he participated in the siege and surrender of Vicksburg with the 72nd Illinois Infantry Regiment. Thomas E. G. Ranson (or Ransom as he is sometimes referred as) raised a company for the 11th Illinois Infantry in April of 1861and within months quickly went up to the rank of Colonel, eventually Brigadier General. He was wounded 4 times, with the final at Sabine Cross Roads, dying in 1864. Serial range dates this revolver manufactured between September 1861 to April 1864. Antique
