Inspired by the success of the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking, consisting of Nordic enlisted men and German officers, it was decided in 1943 that the Panzergrenadier Regiment Nordland would form the nucleus of a new Division, consisting entirely of foreign volunteers. Despite being chiefly Scandinavian, Nordland would become highly diverse before war's end, including French, Swiss and British members. Coat is wool, with a pair of blank shoulder bars, trimmed in the pink Waffenfarbe of the Panzers, the silver thread deaths head skull tab on the right collar, blank rank tab on the left, 2nd pattern SS eagle on the left sleeve and gray thread "Nordland" cuff title. Pants are matching wool, with a green M43 cap, silver thread eagle and deaths head patches and gray inner lining.
