Une chaise de circoncision de style fin Renaissance, le dossier et la base ajourés à décor de feuillage dans un encadrement de colonnes torses; les accoudoirs ornés de têtes de lion, ornementation de médaillon en argent et de plaques portant des inscriptions en hébreu. Les cartouches en argent avec l'inscription en hébreu: "Baruch Haba", (béni soit celui qui vient). De chaque côté du cartouche rectangulaire l'inscription: "Ze Hakisseh Shel Eliyahu Hanavi Zachur Latov" (ceci est le trône d'Elie, le prophète. Que l'on s'en souvienne pour toujours, ou dans une autre version: que sa mémoire soit bénite). Au centre du dossier une plaque circulaire avec une scène de circoncision qui rapelle un plat de circoncision en argent du 17e Siècle au Musée de Cluny à Paris. La scène représente un enfant sur les genoux du Sandek (le parrain) assis dans la chaise d'Elie, tandisque le circonciseur opère sous les yeux d'un deuxième enfant. Le dossier est orné de deux colonnes torses avec chapiteaux, celle de droite symbolise Jahin et celle de gauche Boaz (premiers rois 7:12-22) qui se trouvaient devant le Temple Saint de Jérusalem. Jahin signifie: Lui (Dieu) établira et Boaz, composé de 2 mots: Bo" (dans lui) et AZ (la force). Ainsi les 2 colonnes sont symboles du pouvoir de Dieu et "la confiance d'Israel dans son support. A late Renaissance style circumcision chair, with an openwork backrest and base decorated with foliage and flanked by writhen fluted columnar supports, the armrests ending in lion heads, decoration of a silver medallion and panels with hebrew inscriptions. The silver cartouches with the Hebrew inscription "Baruch Haba" (blessed be he that cometh) on either side of the rectangular cartouche and with the hebrew inscription "Ze Hakisseh Shel Eliyahu Hanavi Zachur Latov" (this is the throne of Elijah the Prophet - may he be remembered for good, or in a different version, may his memory be for a blessing), in the center of the back of the chair there is a framed silver plaque with a circumcision scene which closely resembles a venetian circumcision dish (silver gilt) from the seventeenth century which can be seen in Paris in the Musee de Cluny. The scene depicts a child in the lap of the Sandek (godfather) in Elijah's chair and the Mohel performing the circumcision while a second child is looking on. All are dressed in the attire of the period. On the back of the chair are two twisted fluted columns with capitals (lily work). They symbolize the two columns of Jahin (right) and Boaz (left) (first kings 7:12 - 22) that stood in front of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Jahin Means: He (God) will establish and Boaz composed of two words means: Bo- in him and Az- strength. Thus the two columns or pillars symbolized "God's Might" and "Israel's reliance on his support". H./H. 72" - 1.83M. $2500/3500
