Early production WWII era U.S. military contract semi-automatic service rifle chambered in .30 carbine, manufactured circa 1943. This carbine was produced in Underwood's first serial number block 1,350,000 - 1,449,999 and is all parts/period correct other than the sling swivel which is marked "UN". Features a parkerized finish, 18" barrel marked "UNDERWOOD/5-43/[flaming bomb]" & "P", shrouded blade front sight, flip-up "L" dual aperture rear sight marked "S", thin barrel band, push button safety, push button magazine release, 15 round magazine stamped "IU", smooth trigger, milled triggerguard, flat bolt, green canvas sling, two-rivet handguard with wide groove marked "Pedersen U" and smooth walnut pistol grip shoulder stock with high-wood forend, oval cut oiler slot, textured metal buttplate, "M-U" stamp, circled "P" & boxed "UEF/GHD" cartouche. The Underwood ".u." marking is found on the front sight, trigger housing, hammer, magazine catch, operating rod, and bolt. Rifle retains approximately 97% of it's original parkerized finish showing light wear on around the action from the moving parts and some scattered brown tones from dried grease. Action is smooth, the four land bore is excellent, markings are crisp and the wood stocks are very good with a 3 3/4" hairline crack on the top of the handguard.
