c1900-Lot of 7: this assortment contains almost everything a miner could use during a regular day shift. 1 is an oval metal lunch pail, complete with tin cup on top and carry handle. The removable lid reveals a lunch tray, and the deep pail. It measures 9.5"L x 6.5"H. 2 is a metal canteen, with rope loop for carrying. It measures 10" tall by about 6" around it oval base. Both this and the lunch pail look to be soldered tin construction. 3 is a wooden assay box labeled "Gas Laboratory, U.S. Bureau of Mines, Pittsburgh, PA." Inside the banded, divided case are 2 metal sample canisters, with labels to be filled out. 4 is a another wooden case, with locks, that houses a mine level, almost a transit, with scope and bubble level. It sits in a built-in support to protect it. The case measures 11"x 7"x6". 5 is a wooden drill bit box from The Timkin Co. Rock Bit Division. It measures 8"x7"x 3.25". 6 is a small metal box listed as "Mine Safety Appliances Company" of Pittsburgh PA. The box reads "M-S-A Ever Ready First Aid Packet #2." It measures 4"x 2.5"x1". The final item is a rusty cup that has had 14 holes punched randomly through the bottom. We confess we do not know the usage or purpose for this item. Perhaps it was a sieve for coffee, or a strainer for searching minerals at the bottom. HKA#64886
