Undated[1C] Indian cent--Uniface Obverse on Half Dime Planchet--MS63 PCGS.
Undated<1C> Indian cent--Uniface Obverse on Half Dime Planchet--MS63 PCGS. The description as provided on the PCGS label is technically correct, although it may seem a little confusing, as it is the reverse design that is present. The blank side, which is considered the uniface side, then becomes the obverse of this one-sided coin. Assuming the obverse was the hammer die and the reverse was the anvil (stationary) die, a half dime planchet was seated on the reverse die with a cent planchet on top, and both of these planchets were struck by the hammer die containing the Indian cent obverse design. The other coin from this pair, assuming it still exists, would be an Indian cent with the obverse design intact, and an indent in the center of the reverse from the half dime planchet with remnants of the reverse design only at the border. As this is struck on a half dime planchet, it would not have been produced after 1873. The reverse has the earlier T-shaped center strokes to each E in ONE CENT, suggesting that this is dated prior to 1870. This is a lovely Mint State example with brilliant silver surfaces and pale gold toning at the borders.
From The Larry Rausch Collection.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
