Undated (1855-1860) Hawaii-Waterhouse Token VF30 PCGS. Medcalf 2TE1. Struck in soft, white metal, similar to pewter or plumbers putty. The use of the Waterhouse token is unclear, as is the exact date of issue. The firm of J.T. Waterhouse were importers of dry goods in the 19th century, and the firm is still active in several business enterprises today. Because of the softness of the metal, central striking weakness is usually seen, as on this piece, on the king's nose. As a result, these pieces are rarely encountered finer than XF. The light gray surfaces are accented by deeper hues of charcoal around the peripheral devices. A highly collectible piece of Hawaiiana.
