Uncorrected Proof for King of the Fur Traders
Stanley Vestal: Uncorrected Proof Galley for King of the Fur Traders: The Life and Times of Pierre Esprit Radisson subtitle on inside is: The Deeds and Deviltry of Pierre Esprit Radisson . (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1940). First appearance. Tall octavo (11.5” x 7”). Approximately 250 pages. The uncorrected proof copy of Vestal's biography of early American explorer and founder of the Hudson Bay Company, Pierre Esprit Radisson. In this amazing tale of adventure and exploration, Vestal relates how Radisson was captured by the Mohawks as a boy, and was successively a prisoner, Indian scout and warrior, voyager, hunter, trapper, trader, diplomat, promoter, press agent and an officer in the French navy. Radisson is nearly forgotten as being the discoverer of the Mississippi River, Lake Superior and the hinterlands of Hudson Bay. Bound with a heavy cardboard back cover and paper front cover, this uncorrected galley is in wonderful condition, with minor creasing and wear to the right edge of the front cover. Stapled to the interior of the cover is a press release announcing the book's publication and its cost ($3.00). Page one bears two faint fingerprints at lower left corner and creased corners, else an excellent example. Housed in a cloth chemise and a custom quarter morocco book-backed slipcase with five raised bands and gilt tooling on the spine.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
