Uncertified World War II era Military Survival Ki
Uncertified World War II era Military Survival Kit. An unopened ebony hard plastic box bears the raised inscription on both sides, "If Found Return To/ComNavAirLant (CNAL 34)/Norfolk, Virginia" and has a taped paper label with the typed notation "SERIAL NO. 1304." Associated with the kit are 3 gold rings, and 5 gold coins. The gold rings have the serial number 333 on their inner surface. The gold coins include two British half sovereigns, dated 1902 and 1907, both AU; one MS60 1927 British sovereign; one VF 1868 French 10 francs; and one MS60 1907 French 20 francs 'Rooster.' Kits such as these were distributed to U.S. military personnel sent to Europe to be used in the event of an emergency, such as getting trapped behind enemy lines. Most kits were presumably returned intact and eventually destroyed.
