This is a Umatilla Native American Indian pipe tomahawk from the Chief Clarence Burke Collection early 1900. Provenance: This was purchased directly from Chief Clarence Burke in Pendleton, Oregon during the 1970's and is from a very large private Native American Artifact collection in Pendleton, Oregon. The piece shows a forge large bladed Pipe tomahawk with carved wood haft having brass trade tacks. The Tomahawk is believed to be from circa 1880-1920's handed down from Chief Burke's father, Chief Poker Jim. Chief Clarence Burke (1891-1987) was one of the the Pendleton Roundup Rodeos Co-Chiefs, succeeding his father Chief Poker Jim. Overall measures 24"L x 11"W. The head is 11"x4.5" with a 5/8" bowl opening.
