c. 1886, General Ulysses S. Grant Memorial Display, Including: Photograph, Print, Mourning Ribbon, and Original 39-Star Flag Carried at Grant’s Funeral, Choice Very Fine.
Ulysses S. Grant (born Hiram Ulysses Grant (April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885) was the 18th President of the United States (1869–77). Four Items Display featuring Union Civil War General Ulysses S. Grant Include:
1. c. 1886, Original Sepiatone Photograph entitled: "The Prayer Being Heard At the Tomb", measuring 10” x 11.5” by the “U.S. Inst. Photo Co. #58”;
2. Handsome portrait print of General Grant, 13” x 10” black & white with yellow highlighting, published by Currier & Ives, New York, n.d.;
3. 39-Star American Flag, Silk, red white & blue, measuring 16” x 12” with an accompanying identifying Letter Envelope stating: "Flag carried by Mrs. J. J. Ingalls at Grant's funeral." This statement apparently in reference to Grant’s historic reburrial within “Grant’s Tomb” on April 17, 1897. This rare Flag shows actual use having areas of fine splits within, the colors remain quite bold, and it has a solid overall appearance for display;
4. Decorative Memorial Silk Ribbon, including a small round central Sepia Photograph of Grant, Black Silk with Silver Trim and Bottom Tassels, measuirng 8” X 2.5”.
All Four historic General Ulysses S. Grant Memorial items are individually very pleasing and are nicely displayed matted together to an overall size of 25” x 29”. The historic, pedigreed 39-Star American Flag is the “Key” to this important collection. (4 item display)
