Ultra rare Gillam and Miller Confederate contract rifle manufactured at High Point North Carolina and one of 739 estimated to have been produced of which 212 were rejected and were closely patterned after the U.S. Model 1841 style riflebut made without patch box (refer Flayderman 10-035.9). The rifle was .58 caliber with a 30” barrel. There is a P mark in the stock just behind the side plate. The metal surfaces show a dark brown patina finish with some scattered light tomoderate rust and erosion and some slightly heavier pitting in the firing areas of the breech. The stock is good with weathering, normal aging, slight darkening but is generally good overall with a correct style ramrod matching to the patina on the barrel. The lock works well and there is some losses of wood behind the hammer and around the tang. The mounts and butt plate show a matching Confederate colored brass with great patina. The original sling swivels are retained. The inventory card indicates the number 190 and with fancy initials inside the lock and G and N under the butt plate in the wood. The bore is now approximately .65 caliber with no trace of rifling. A museum quality Confederate rarity.
