Nyholm 107, Unlisted in Rust S/n 2396 A very rare Deseret Currency Association $1 note is offered here for the first time in several years. In D. Nyholm’s book there are three basic types of Deseret Currency. This is classified as a Type 1B, indicating that it has the engraved signature of Brigham Young. The secretaries (secy) signature of Clawson is hand signed. The Type 1A notes are hand signed by Brigham Young, and Type 2 notes are of a completely different design type of which several are also offered in this auction. The rarity of type 1A and 1B notes are equal. Yes, the signature of Brigham Young vs. the engraved type may be ascetically more desirable but the rarity of either is virtually the same. Pass on this note and wait for a hand signed Type 1A may indeed be a long wait. Again as with any very rare piece of currency condition must be considered secondary to a point, wait for a high grade AU or CU example and you may never encounter one. In fact one in such a high grade probably doesn’t exist or if it does it is most likely unique. The condition of this note is actually very nice. It is well centered and soiling is at a minimum keeping the relatively bright appearance of the note. It must be reported that there has been an expert repair to the lower left corner of the note as a triangular piece about the size of a small fingernail has been added. Finally when held to a light there are a number of pinholes. These were probably not caused by pinning the note, rather deterioration of the paper over the past 150 years as it was printed on tissue like paper. Lacking from most Mormon collections and now available for your bidding. HKA#63380
