Above, an American eagle with wings outstretched over a wreath surrounding “U.S.N.”, flanked by United States flags. Pictured in the center is the battleship USS <I>Nebraska</B></I> under steam, a Mexican <I>Señorita</B></I>, the Mexican flag, and a <I>hacienda</B></I> upon a hill. Below is a trophy of arms with U.S. flags and “Greetings from Vera Cruz”. A floral border surrounds all.<BR>On April 21, 1914 United States naval and marine forces landed at the Mexican port of Vera Cruz in response to a diplomatic crisis at Tampico. U.S. Army troops relieved the navy and marines and continued to occupy the city for another six months.
