U.S.S. Colorado letter from Charles Derleth, Jr. composed during the search for Amelia Earhart. Cover reads, ''U.S.S. Colorado Enroute Howland Island and the Equator, Searching for Miss Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Capt. Fred Noonan, who were forced down.'' Dated 15 July 1937, letter reads in part: ''..we have been cruising equatorial waters since July 2 in search of the Earhart plane but with no success; crossed the Equator & got as far as 5 S. lat., 178 W. long. We reach Honolulu tomorrow...'' Very good condition.
