Uncommon vintage glossy 10 x 8 photo of the three survivors of the USS Akron disaster, signed in fountain pen by those pictured: Lieutenant Commander Herbert V. Wiley ("H. V. Wiley, Lt. Comdr. USN"), Boatswain's Mate Second Class Richard E. Deal ("R. E. Deal"), and Aviation Metalsmith Second Class Moody E. Erwin ("M. Erwin"). In fine condition. The accident-prone naval airship USS Akron (ZRS-4) was lost in a weather-related accident off the coast of New Jersey on April 4, 1933, killing 73 of the 76 crew and passengers on board. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
