U.S.I.D. Remington Keene Magazine Bolt Action Frontier Rifle, #429, .45-70 cal., 24-1/2'' barrel, blue finish, case hardened hammer, smooth straight grip walnut stock. U.S.I.D. markings represent the United States Department of the Interior, with approx. 480 issued to arm Indian police on various reservations throughout the country. These rifles were mfg'd between 1880-1881 and are seldom seen in any condition today. Also known as the Frontier Model, these 24'' carbines sport barrel bands at muzzle, sling swivels, and carbine style buttplate. Included are several articles pertaining to these particular carbines, as well as the Standing Rock Indian Agency in North Dakota. Condition is very good to near fine retaining approx. 70%-80% original thinning blue. Stock with moderate scuffs and scratches, as well as several repairs to bottom portion just forward of loading gate. Original cartouche is faintly visible, with added reservation style markings on left side above triggerguard. Markings and action are crisp, bore is fine. Also included is a Sheffield made period skinning knife with 8'' blade measuring 13-1/2'' overall. No scabbard. Ricasso area is marked ''Snakebrand, Sheffield''. Blade shows wiggly snake over bar logo to left side. Both walnut grip panels are marked ''Standing Rock Indian Agency''. Condition to knife is very good overall with moderate toning to blade. Grip scales have darkened but five retaining pins hold firm. Est.: $3,500-$5,000. (Antique)
