USCGC TANEY - THE LAST PEARL HARBOR VESSEL AFLOAT
Fine grouping of relics from the USCGC TANEY (WHEC-37), the last surviving vessel that fought in the attack on Pearl Harbor. The vessel fired upon Japanese aircraft from her berth in Honolulu Harbor, saw action in both theaters of combat in World War II, serving as command ship at the Battle of Okinawa, and as part of fleet escort in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. She also served in the Vietnam War in Operation Market Time. Taney also patrolled the seas working in drug interdiction and fisheries protection and participated in the search for Amelia Earhart. She presently is berthed as a historic vessel in Baltimore's inner harbor. Lieutenant Commander J. Gilbert Collins served aboard the Taney and was present at Pearl Harbor. Upon leaving the vessel, he took as mementoes a Danish finely carved wood combination barometer and thermometer which had once been in the wardroom of the vessel, as well as two ornate International Silver Co. forks marked with Navy anchors and "U.S.N.", also removed as souvenirs from the vessel. Also included in the lots are some of Collins' medals, including Pearl Harbor Survivor's Medal, China Service, Atlantic-Pacific Campaign, American Campaign, American Defense, U.S. Navy, and Liberation of the Philippines. Consigned by Collins' estate, with letter of provenenance and film of Collins addressing, post-war. Tiny bit of trim on barometer broken, with a spindle at bottom broken but present and with no loss, else very good.

Estimate: $400 - 500.
