USA Comics #1 (Timely, 1941) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white to white pages. One of the top 20 Timely books, this issue stands out from the remainder of the run thanks to the striking Jack Kirby cover, which looks fantastic on this excellent copy. The series was a tryout showcase of all-new characters, boasting the first appearance of the Whizzer as well as of Mister Liberty (later Major Liberty), Rockman, the Defender, and Jack Frost. Simon and Kirby added one page of interior art; Basil Wolverton handled art chores on the Rockman story. One of our favorite anecdotes about this book: Timely feared that the government would claim a trademark to the title, but that they'd be off the hook if they didn't put periods between the letters U.S.A. It's so odd, it must be true! While a couple of copies have been graded higher, we've seen the Larson and Rockford copies, neither of which have the unblemished yellow top area that this sharp VF copy does. Overstreet 2006 VF 8.0 value = $8,753. CGC census 9/06: 3 in 8.0, 4 higher.

Shipping: Slabbed Comic (view shipping information)
