US model 1850 officer’s sword retaining original scabbard in near fine condition. The blade shows an “S” and “R” stamp which are probably Soligen and most likely an imported blade. The blade is in fine condition showing its original polish and all of its fancy etching, which extends over halfway down the blade with scenes of eagle, stands of arms, scrolls, e pluribus unum, US, etc. The cast brass hilt shows US and floral wreaths and slightly fancier than normal with wire-wrapped sharkskin handle in very good to near fine condition. The hilt and pommel retain 80-90% toned original gilt. The scabbard shows 80-90% tobacco brown finish on body with 50-60% toning original gilt. The blade measures approx. 32-1/4”, 37-7/8” overall. An outstanding officer’s sword with just a slight amount of use and light carry and very little aging. Est: $1,250 - $2,500
