US model 1830 cadet musket by Springfield armory, smoothbore 36” barrel, brown barrel, case hardened lock, dated 1830. Shows three bands and fitted for socket bayonet, one of only approx. 154 produced in the 36” barrel and only 300 of this model made, specifically designed for use by cadets at West Point with approval by the secretary of war. Refer Flayderman 9A-255. The barrel shows considerable traces of brown finish going to grey with some erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The breech area shows light “V” and “P” proofs with Springfield eagle. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration and shows a very sharp well stamped eagle and US and at least 30-50% case hardening. The stock is good to very good showing some mars and losses by the front barrel band spring, a few losses around the ramrod channel, some normal scratches, carry, oiling with linseed oil and at least very good overall. The triggerguard shows a CAV stamp and has a dark patina. Just behind the triggerguard is a small inspector’s type stamp, which is not quite legible but appears to be C. Wright. An original trumpet shaped ramrod is included. The small parts, bands, and springs are all original
