Impressive partly printed DS, one page both sides, 16.75 x 20.5, August 3, 1818. Agreement between "the Master, Seamen or Mariners of the Sloop Catharine of New Bedford Moses Goodrich Master, now bound from the Port of New Bedford to St. Thomas and a Market in the West Indies, thence back to a port of discharge in the United States, and to return to New Bedford." The master and each crew member are identified by name, station, time of entry, discharge, and service, monthly and total wages, advances, hospital money, and dues, with each man signing in the lower border. The opposite side of the document features a large printed decree entitled "An Act for the Government and Regulation of Seamen, in the Merchants' Service," with lower right signed in print by John Adams, George Washington, Aaron Burr, and Thomas Jefferson. In very good to fine condition, with light creasing, toning, and edge chipping.
