US Model 1855 rifled musket by Springfield Armory, dated 1858, iron mountings with brass forend cap and Maynard tape-fire primer type device. Refer Flayderman 9A-307. The rifle remains in good original condition showing a light-grey patina finish, some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting, some slightly heavier pitting on the nipple, bolster and rear 3” of breech. The markings are sharp, the eagle stamping is well defined. The Mayard tape primer is working, the stock is good, with some small losses along the ramrod channel. Some dings, mars, normal use, and most of cartouches showing on left side of stock. A light overcoating of clear varnish of shellac, but no sanding. The original rear sight is retained and correct style ramrod. The action is good, the bore fair to good with a few dark areas that may clean and well defined rifling. Est: $2,250 - $3,250
