US Model 1808 Navy pistol by S. North, .64+ caliber, brass mounts, one of approx. 3,000 produced in the War of 1812 era. The pistol is standard as issued and is approx. 16-1/4” overall with 10-1/8” round barrel. Showing a lightly-cleaned finish, scattered erosion and pinprick pitting, nothing significant. Good markings on the lock, “U. States”, eagle stamp about 60-70% visible. North markings clear. Not proofs on the barrel, which is proper on this model. Refer to Flayderman’s 6A-009. The stock is good, other than a few cracks at the bottom area of the wrist which is common to this caliber, and the reason the bore size was subsequently reduced by North. Wood shows good edges, a few small losses around the pinholes, but generally good overall and better than average for this model. Shows an old spliced-in wood repair at front right of stock, which is period and well done and extends approx 1” by 1/4". The pistol retains a correct style, possibly an original tempered belt hook, brass tipped hickory ramrod, and is an expert reconversion, properly aged and difficult to detect. A very presentable model 1808 with Charles DuPont inventory stating “Purchased from Ed Bidder, 12/19/79”. Est: $4,000 - $8,000
