US MODEL 1851 MISSISSIPPI RIFLE BY ROBBINS,
KENDALL & LAWRENCE. Cal. 57. NSN. Bbl. 33" rnd. probably rebored to 58 cal. for Civil War use, has V notch rear & brass front sights. No proofs marks, etc. visible. Percussion lock has contractors name over US in front of hammer & “WINDSOR VT” 1847 at rear. American walnut stock is secured by 2 brass spring retained bands. These attractive rifles were brass mounted w/ “US” marked buttplate & rectangular brass patch box on right side (on this rifle, patchbox contains combination nipple wrench & screw driver along w/ worm). Brass trigger guard has sling loop at front. Correct style steel ramrod w/ flared brass tip is present. CONDITION: fair to good, bbl. dark brown patina w/ considerable pitting at breech end. Lock also cleaned & w/ light brown patina. Stock has probable old refinish, no marks visible w/ light inspectors mark on left side. Brass w/ old cleaning has toned to gold/brown. A 1 1/2x1/2" piece of wood is missing between lock and bbl. tang. Fair bore, rifling evident. Lock is operable. (01-19198/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,800.
