M1892 .38 caliber fourth type made between 1903-1906. "Rock Island Arsenal" on the back flap in three lines with "HEK" inspector stamp dated 1904. Has lanyard ring on bottom of plug. Is constructed of either black or russet leather.   Rock Island /Arsenal/date/inspector initials are found on either the flap early 1903 only or on the back of the belt loop late 1903-1906. The size of the belt loop was increased one half inch inn 1904. Holsters manufactured during the period 1902-1906 are randomly found either with or without the thong ring in the bottom plug, the curved stitching at the point of the trigger guard and the elk skin thong on the belt loop. The thong ring was added in 1904 so it is original to all those holsters manufactured thereafter. The curved stitching was added in 1907 to form the holster body more closely to the shape of the revolver and to prevent it from resting on the bottom plug. From 1903 to 1906, 39,045 fourth type .38 caliber revolver holsters were made in russet leather and 3,425 in black leather. **Holster leather shows light wear with some light cracking in on spot but has tight stitching and the markings show well. Leather is still pliable. Overall in very good to excellent.** $200-$300
